Limoblaze Early Life and Family Background

Limoblaze was born on October 25, 1995, and comes from Abia State, Nigeria. He grew up in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, where his family and early experiences helped shape his interest in music.

He is one of eight children born to Samuel and Nkechi Onwubiko. His upbringing was rooted in Christianity, and he spent much of his formative years involved in church activities. According to his official profile on Reach Records, he also performed at talent shows and local events while pursuing his musical ambitions.

His musical interests began with mainstream artists such as Tupac Shakur, Eminem and 50 Cent. He later discovered Christian hip-hop artists, including Lecrae and Andy Mineo, whose work demonstrated how rap could communicate Christian beliefs.

These influences helped him develop an approach to music that combines the rhythms of African popular music with the lyrical style of hip-hop and Christian themes.

Limoblaze Education

Limoblaze studied Biochemistry at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in Benue State.

During his university years, his interest in music continued to grow. He became involved with Daystar Church, where his Christian faith and musical development increasingly came together.

Although he pursued a science-related degree, music gradually became his professional direction. His experience as a student also coincided with the development of his early recordings and the growth of his identity as an Afro-gospel artist.

How Limoblaze Got His Name

Limoblaze adopted his stage name as his musical career developed. He is professionally known as Limoblaze, while his birth name is Samuel Onwubiko.

The name has become associated with his energetic performance style and his fusion of Afrobeats, rap and Christian music. His identity as an Afro-gospel artist reflects his decision to combine musical influences from African popular culture with the message and themes of his Christian faith.

Limoblaze Music Career

Limoblaze began recording music in the early 2010s, initially focusing more heavily on rap. As he developed as an artist, he recognised the potential of combining Afrobeats with his hip-hop background.

His early projects include Blind (2016), Before Now (2018), Afrobeats Rap and Jesus (2019), Bridges (2020) and God’s Favourite Baby (2021). These releases helped establish his sound and introduced his music to a growing audience.

Rather than limiting himself to conventional gospel arrangements, Limoblaze incorporated contemporary African rhythms, melodic hooks and rap verses. This approach allowed him to reach listeners interested in both gospel music and modern African popular music.

His catalogue also expanded through collaborations with established Christian artists, including Ada Ehi, Travis Greene, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. and Lecrae.

Limoblaze and Reach Records

In October 2022, Limoblaze signed with Reach Records, the American record label founded by Christian rapper Lecrae. The label announced the signing on October 28, 2022, describing Limoblaze as a Nigerian-born, UK-based artist working at the intersection of Afrobeats and hip-hop.

The signing was an important milestone because it connected his Afro-gospel sound with an established international Christian hip-hop platform.

His first major project with the label was Sunday in Lagos, released in October 2022. The seven-track EP included “Jireh (My Provider),” “Desire,” “Gold” featuring Ada Ehi, and other songs that combined African musical influences with Christian themes.

The collaboration gained significant attention on social media, where users created videos featuring the song. Its online popularity translated into chart success, reaching No. 31 on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, No. 41 on Hot Christian Songs and No. 15 on Gospel Songs, according to Reach Records.
